Professor Stefano Filletti
Professor Stefano Filletti is a distinguished Maltese legal scholar and practitioner, specialising in Criminal Law. He serves as a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Criminal Law within the Faculty of Laws at the University of Malta. He is also a Visiting Lecturer at the International Maritime Law Institute (IMO).
Prof. Filletti's academic background includes extensive post-graduate studies at prestigious institutions he holds: a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the University of Malta; awarded a Masters of Law (M. Jur.) in Criminal Law with distinction from the University of Oxford as a Chevening Scholar; a Masters of Law (LL.M.) with distinction in international law and law of the seas from the International Maritime Law Institute (IMO). His foundational degrees, including the Doctor of Laws (LL.D.), were obtained from the University of Malta.
In addition to his academic roles, Prof. Filletti maintains a significant profile in private practice and public service. He is the Senior Managing Partner at Filletti & Filletti Advocates in Malta, specialising in criminal law. He also Heads the Maltese Delegation to the Council of Europe's European Committee on Crime Problems (CDPC), and has been elected to the Bureauof the CPDC. Prof. Filletti also acts as an advisor to both private and public entities and holds the title of Honorary Consul for Ecuador.

Dr Maurice Meli
Senior Associate
Dr Maurice Meli is a Senior Associate at Filletti & Filletti Advocates, where he advises institutional and private clients across commercial, employment, public procurement, and sports law. He focuses extensively on contentious matters, specializing in the drafting, negotiation, and litigation of complex commercial agreements.
Dr Meli’s career with Filletti & Filletti Advocates spans over a decade, having originally joined the firm as a legal trainee in July 2014. Following his legal studies at the University of Malta, where he graduated with a Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) in 2016, he was admitted to the Maltese Bar in 2017 and subsequently appointed Associate, later rising to Senior Associate within the firm.
Beyond his core civil and commercial practice, Dr Meli regularly advises clients on matters related to financial crime, as well as all aspects of sports law. He also continues to assist clients on legal matters surrounding distributed ledger technology (DLT).
Dr Meli is a member of the Chamber of Advocates, the Malta IT Law Association (MITLA), and the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA).

Dr Martina Cuschieri
Associate
Dr Martina Cuschieri is an Associate at Filletti & Filletti Advocates. Her principal areas of practice include litigation in family, civil, criminal and commercial law, representing and advising clients in a wide range of contentious matters. She has particular experience in family law proceedings, commercial disputes, property law, debt collection and other civil and criminal litigation. Martina also assists the firm in matters relating to arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
Martina joined Filletti & Filletti Advocates as a legal trainee in February 2019. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Malta in December 2018, presenting a dissertation entitled Family Violence – The Perpetrator's and Victim's Perspective in Cases of Sexual Offences. She subsequently obtained a Master of Advocacy degree in 2019 and was admitted to the Maltese Bar in 2020, following the award of her warrant to practise as an Advocate before the Courts of Malta.
Dr Nicole Galea
Associate
Dr Nicole Galea is an Associate within Filletti & Filletti Advocates and is actively involved in litigation within both Civil and Criminal Law. Her main areas include Property Law and Human Rights. Additionally, she also assists the firm with various matters related to arbitration and alternative forms of dispute resolution.
Nicole graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree in 2018 from the University of Malta presenting a Term Paper entitled ‘A legal analysis of the minor’s right to consent and refuse medical treatment under the Health Act’. She graduated with a Master of Advocacy in 2019 and was awarded her warrant to practice as an Advocate before the Courts of Malta in 2020. She completed her pupillage with a law firm wherein she gained experience in Litigation, Corporate law, Employment law and Residency Law.

Dr Megan Sammut
Junior Associate
Dr Megan Sammut is a Junior Associate within Filletti & Filletti Advocates and she deals with matters relating to civil law. Megan also focuses on various aspects relating to corporate law, property law and debt collection. Furthermore, she is actively involved in litigation, including arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution.
Megan joined Filletti & Filletti Advocates in 2024 as an intern. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree from the University of Malta in 2024 with a Term Paper entitled “An Analysis of Short Selling in the European Union with Particular Focus on the COVID-19 Pandemic”. Furthermore, she graduated with a Master of Advocacy degree in 2025 and was awarded her warrant to practice as an Advocate before the Courts of Malta in 2025 .

Dr Maya Thornton is a Junior Associate at Filletti & Filletti Advocates, focusing on matters relating to civil and criminal law. She is actively involved in litigation and other forms of dispute resolution.
Maya joined Filletti & Filletti Advocates in 2024 as a Legal Intern. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from the University of Malta in 2024, having completed her dissertation entitled "The Admissibility and Reliability of Self-Incriminating Statements Obtained During Police Detention Without Legal Representation".
She subsequently obtained her Master of Advocacy degree in 2025 and was awarded her warrant to practise as an Advocate before the Courts of Malta in 2026.
